Nah, I'm not.
I think I'm getting the early bird train from Heuston. I haven't checked the times yet though. I'm not planning on staying the night either but that might change. Rugby Rugby Rugby.

How are you making the commute?

Hey Phil,

I am always jealous after such posts, but in good way.

User Testing for websites > I believe that the best approach to test web sites is to implement them in a way that allows you to test them. And first of all it is necessary to consider the MVP pattern.

REST > ha, now I know how to call it ))
Btw, new ASP.NET MVC Framework will really help to follow the REST architecture. And that framework will help with testing as well.

Silverlight > I agree, there is lack of good presentations.

Agile > Phil, could you write a little bit more about "management had to be on-board" and "velocity"?

Cheers!

Hi Phil,

Barry here from IrishDev.com. We're totally over the moon that you enjoyed the conference last week, and we love your commentary on the sessions that you attended.

You know, what makes our job so satisfying is hearing people who have attended the events compliment them - you'd have heard me (or at least read me in the IWTC brochure!) but for the benefit of your visitors I'd like to outline why IrishDev.com are initiating main stream gigs....

First off, as a community that is widely acknowledged as being one of, if not 'the' most innovative, creative and highly skilled software development sectors in the world, we did not have any substantial events - this had to change! IrishDev.com has seven events in 2008 including Web (just gone) Microsoft (April 2nd & 3rd - blog just opened at http://imtc.firstport.ie), Open Source (May 22nd & 23rd), Mobile (June), Database (Sept), Architecture (October) and finally Java (November - last years site http://ijtc.firstport.ie. With high profile showcase events we are constantly reminding the world that we're a centre of excellence) and this cultivates commercial opportunity, employment and long term growth.

Secondly, isn't it just fantastic to be able to attend an event and hear the industries best evangelists demonstrate the latest technologies?

Thirdly, we have to protect our future. As developers we have a responsibility to do whatever we can to actively encourage Irelands next generation of developers and entrepreneur to get involved in our industry now - without this we have no future! By mobilising software developers from across the country to attend these events we are by default getting greater media coverage (even RTE - see Girl Geek Dinner coverage - http://www.rte.ie/news/2008/0226/6news.html) and exposing the sector to second level students.

In terms of success, the IWTC attracted over 300 delegates dipping in and out throughout the days. Given it's the first year in the running we were chuffed. The event has also sent out messages to key influencer in Government and state bodies - it's time to stand up and be counted. We whole heartedly agree with you, next year ( and yes, it is coming back in 2009) we want to see more of Irelands magnificent web industrialists in front of the 'big screens!'

Thanks once again for your positive commentary.
Best
