mp3 id3 tag whatsit

I bought a few mp3s from mp3sparks (formerly allofmp3) and was annoyed that the mp3s were not tagged with their track numbers but they were in the filename.

I had a quick look to see if I could fix this somehow. I found id3-py which I used to write a python script that fixes this and the artist,title and comment. One thing I noted was that you can only have a max of thirty characters in your track title. With a “Various Artists” album you want the artist in the title (Album artist is not in the id3 spec but it is supported by itunes and WMP). The concatenation of title and artist is quite often more than 30 characters - not good. Anyone found a way to write “Album Artist” to an mp3 using python?
mp3sparks is great but why in all things upside-down-monkey-drunk do I have to download each file individually and why do I have to right click (it is possible force a download guys).

I’ll upload an exe for installation that fixes your mp3sparks mp3s later.

    I use 2 programs for arranging my music collection.

    ID3-TagIT - excellent for doing batch renames based on either tags or filenames etc. Also great for organizing into folders based on tag info. Little bit unintuitive to use but otherwise class.

    The other is MediaMonkey. Class bit of work. Automatically grabs all the info and art off amazon and tags your albums. Also has a great Files to Edit section which shows you files with bad tags, duplicate files, etc etc.

    If you’re as anal as me about your mp3 collection these are two must haves!!

    Go to www.alltunes.com and download the downloader software. Then run it as it may take some time (20 minutes) to update the cataloge - syncs in with mp3sparks. Then you order your mp3’s via mp3sparks, wait a little while for them to encode, log into alltunes and download them. My practice is to order bunch of albums at a timeand start the download with alltunes before I go to bed. I have the settings to turn off the computer when finished so when I get up in the morning I turn on my computer and all my MP3’s are there.

    Cheers guys,

    @Frank - I’ll have a look at those tools.

    @Tom - I tried alltunes and it make it alot easier. I used it to get the new editors (http://www.editorsofficial.com/) album which is great by the way.
