Track my letter you planks

This blog is turning into a bitter twisted rant fest but I have one more. I have an important letter supposedly winging it’s way to me. I have a Royal Mail tracking number so I can check where it is. I enter the number on the Royal Mail website and I receive the message -

“Your item is currently progressing through our network for delivery.

To check your item’s progress please come back later.”

Now surely I should be getting more information than this. I know it’s bloody on it’s way - it was posted. Now where is it??

I have a sneaky suspicion that this situation is as a result of the letter entering the calamity that is An Post (Irish postal service) so it is probably not all Royal Mail’s fault.

So if anybody sees my letter could they please let me know.

Royal Mail’s tracking is bloody useless. It either says “no such package” or ““Your item is currently progressing through our network for delivery”, which is meaningless, or “out for delivery” (which it can say for days).

I don’t want to know any of those things. I want the geographical location of my package!

Royal Mail have been awful since the strike too. I’ve had two letters be well over a week late on first-class delivery, sending and receiving, and the last letter I got was ripped almost completely open - my TV license.

    Hi Phil / Matt

Right, I worked for these bastards and kinda know the system, how it works and the compensation stuff too!

Recorded Delivery - does exactly as it says on the tin….when its delivered, its signed for but this service isn’t guaranteed delivery and is basically the same as first class post with the addition of it being signed for on delivery….if the postman, sorry “delivery officer” as their known now, does just post it straight through your letter box. Compensation for 1st Class, 2nd Class and Recorded Delivery is 100 * price of the stamp.

Special Delivery - probably the dogs danglies IMHO and absolutely guarantees that your package/mail is delivered the following day before 0900 or 1300! This service allows your package to be traced from start to finish EVERYWHERE it goes, so if it takes a detour via Scotland, it will show on the system…..This service also has a few extras like Consequential Loss and additional Insurance upgrades. Consequential Loss is for example if an item is Legal Contracts and their lost in the post, you can claim up to £10,000 or the value of loss - whichever is lowest. If the service is late, you can claim back your postage. The “default” with this service is Loss and/or Damage up to £250 with increments of £500 and £1000 (I think) .

What kind of service did they send your item by Phil? Any Idea?

Recorded Delivery - The last few times I’ve had one of these and been out of the house at the time, the postman has signed for it himself and just left the package in the porch…
